OpenAI releases Chat GPT-4

As an AI language model, ChatGPT-4 has created a buzz among technology enthusiasts and businesses alike. With its claimed "human-level performance" on academic and professional examinations such as the US bar and SAT school tests, the GPT-4 has raised the bar for natural language processing (NLP).

The model, which is available via the $20 a month paid version of ChatGPT, has been embedded in various apps, including the popular language learning app Duolingo, and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. The app offers two paid subscription features using the software: an AI conversation partner and a tool that explains corrections to mistakes.

In testing, GPT-4 scored in the 90th percentile on the Uniform Bar Exam, while its predecessor, ChatGPT, only scored in the 10th percentile. However, the model has encountered pitfalls, including "hallucinations," context limits, and an inability to learn from experience. According to an OpenAI spokesperson, "Care should be taken when using the outputs of GPT-4, particularly in contexts where reliability is important."

Despite its limitations, GPT-4 has undergone stress tests, addressing possible risks around bias, disinformation, privacy, and cyber security. The software can generate potentially harmful content, such as advice on planning attacks or hate speech, and can also express biases and various world views. The model can also generate code that is compromised or vulnerable, making it crucial to use the output carefully.

GPT-4's release has sparked intense interest and speculation in the tech world, with many wondering about its technical details regarding the model architecture and training of data. However, unlike its predecessor, GPT-3, technical details have not been released for GPT-4's release, with competitive and safety concerns said to be key factors.

When it comes to image input, the upgraded chatbot is capable of providing detailed descriptions of the image and answering queries about photos, similar to computer vision. This aspect of the upgrade seems to further show OpenAI's aim to compete with the Google search engine, which also includes search using images, but is yet to have answer-giving capabilities. Google's Bard chatbot offering is still only open to a limited pool of testers.

Additionally, OpenAI has announced a partnership with Be My Eyes, a Danish start-up that pairs people with visual impairments with human volunteers to help guide or help users who are blind or partially sighted. The aim is to help users navigate the world better and be more independent.

The release of GPT-4 has further intensified the "AI arms race" among the major cloud computing vendors, including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services. The chatbot race appears to be bringing a new facet to the global innovation battle. With AWS announcing a partnership with AI community Hugging Face last month, businesses are being offered a wealth of AI innovation options.

In conclusion, GPT-4 is an important milestone in the path to Artificial General Intelligence. AI is set to transform all our lives, and the next decade is going to see the exponential advancement of AI, capable of handling increasingly complex use cases and supporting next-generation technologies that will make up the Fourth Industrial Revolution. However, as with any new technology, there are potential risks, and care must be taken when using the outputs of GPT-4, particularly in contexts where reliability is important. Nonetheless, GPT-4 has tremendous potential, and its integration into various apps and services is only the beginning of its journey towards revolutionizing the way we communicate with machines.
